1. God:

God reveals Himself as a triune being. There is only one Supreme Being, yet He has revealed Himself in three personalities-The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1:26  Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

Matthew 28:19 Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:

John 3:5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Romans 15:30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

1Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Names for God

A. _YAHWEH (or JEHOVAH) _ Translated LORD in our English Bibles. Means Self-Existent One; Eternal One. You CAN depend on The Lord because His existence doesn’t depend on any other (person, place, thing or idea). He transcends time.

B. _ELOHIM_ Translated God in our English Bibles. Means Strong One; Powerful One. His strength (physical or spiritual) is beyond measure.

Isaiah 40:28 Have you not known? Have you not heard, that the everlasting God (Elohim), the Lord (Yahweh), the Creator of the ends of the earth, faints not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding.

Evidence for God

Gen 1:1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

C.I. Scofield said of this verse “The Bible begins with God, not with philosophic arguments for His existence.”

Psalm 14:1  To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that does good.

How can you be a serious thinker and not believe that there is some supreme being?

Psalm 19:1  <To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.> The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament (skies) shows his handiwork .

When you look to the creations, it declares to you there is a creator!

There is only one Supreme Being, yet He has revealed Himself in three personalities-The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. God oftentimes reveals Himself in anthropomorphic language. In other words, sometimes He uses human features to relate spiritual truths. At other times God reveals himself in animalistic or other materialistic manifestations.

God The Father

John 3:16 For God (The Father) so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him:

God The Son

Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2. He was with God in the beginning.

3. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

Colossians 1:15-17 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

16. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.

17. He is before all things and in Him all things hold together.

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 8:58 “I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"

Philippians 2:5-8 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

6. Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,

7. but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

8. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!

Colossians 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,

Hebrews 1:8  But about the Son He says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom."

God The Holy Spirit

The Character of the Holy Spirit

2nd  Corinthians 13 :14 “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.

What is fellowship of the Holy Spirit of God? Fellowship can be thought of as two fellows in a ship. For the two fellows in the ship to get along they must have communion, a commonality, something in common. Fellowship carries along with it the idea of sharing and participation. Let’s look at these areas closer.

First we must ask ourselves, who is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit of God. He has chosen to reveal himself in uniquely human, animal and other characteristics, and yet he clearly states in John 4:24 that “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

Next, Let us look at some of the characteristics of the Holy Spirit. Let’s discover some of the revelations of the Holy Spirit as presented the Holy scriptures of God, the Bible.

Here in our focal text of 2nd Corinthians 13:14, we can clearly see the trinity of the Godhead. God reveals Himself as a triune being. There is only one Supreme Being, yet He has revealed Himself in three personalities-The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. God oftentimes reveals Himself in anthropomorphic language. In other words, sometimes He uses human features to relate spiritual truths. At other times God reveals himself in animalistic or other materialistic manifestations. Let’s look at some of these manifestations!

Genesis 1:1 & 2 tell us “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (verse 2) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” And so begins the journey of the revelation of the Holy Spirit! The book of Genesis in The Old Testament begins the unfolding of the person of The Holy Spirit. Here in Genesis 1: 1 & 2, the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) is seen as moving or hovering over the face (surface) of the waters. This scene has been likened to a hen that hovers over her baby chicks.

God tells us that he is holy in Leviticus 11:44a “For I am the LORD your God: you shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy:...”  Then John 4:24 states “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” We can see from these passages that God is holy and a spirit, a holy spirit. While these particular scriptures speak of God in general, they also give us some of the most important attributes of the Holy Spirit of God.

The Holy Spirit of God is Holy, that is he is “whole”, not needing, he is that he is. God put it this way in Exodus 3:14 “ And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shall you say unto the children of Israel, I AM has sent me unto you.” God is saying that he is all sufficient, whole: not needing of  any, Holy.

The Holy Spirit of God is a spirit, supernatural, nonphysical being.

Matthew 3:16 And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him:

Luke 1:35  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that Holy thing (one) which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God.

1Corinthians 12:3 wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Spirit.

2.

Scripture

Scripture is Inspired.

 Inspiration:

 2Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

 Inspiration- The “breath" of God (The Holy Spirit) that gives us the word of God.

Scripture is Revealed.

 Revelation:

 Deuteronomy 29:29 “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.”

 Revelation- The Word of God; the Bible understood by the children of God.

Scripture is Preserved.

Preservation:

Psalm 12:6-7 “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. You shall keep them, O LORD; you shall preserve them from this generation for ever.”

 Preservation- The protection of The Word of God by God.

Scripture is Illuminated.

Illumination:

 1Corinthians 2:12 “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.”

Illumination- The things of God known by the person of God given by the Spirit of God.

Scriptural Interpretation

2Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

Proverbs=Precepts=Principals “You want to make these “princis” your “pals” “Precepts Along Life’s Sojourn”  Princes=Rulers “Rules (Pals) to guide you along life’s journey”

Proverbs 1:1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

2.  To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

3.  To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

4.  To give subtlety (prudence: wisdom applied to practice) to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

5.  A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

6.  To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7.  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

8.  My son, hear the instruction of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother:

9.  For they shall be an ornament of grace unto your head, and chains about your neck.

10.  My son, if sinners entice you, consent you not.

11.  If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, and let us lurk privately for the innocent without cause:

12.  Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

13.  We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

14.  Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse:

15.  My son, walk not you in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path:

16.  For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

17.  Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

18.  And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privately for their own lives.

19.  So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which takes away the life of the owners thereof.

20.  Wisdom cries without; she utters her voice in the streets:

21.  She cries in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she utters her words, saying,

22.  How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

23.  Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

24.  Because I have called, and you refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

25.  But you have set at naught all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

26.  I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

27.  When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

28.  Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29.  For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

30.  They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31.  Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

32.  For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

33.  But whosoever hearkens unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Scriptural Interpretation: “Interpretation must be preceded by Inspiration, Revelation, Preservation and Illumination to be properly understood”

3. Salvation

Salvation is a process:

Whereby you have been saved- (Acts 4:8-12)-Predestination (Romans 8: 28-30)- Regeneration (Titus 3:4-7),

Whereof you are saved- (2Timothy 1:8-11)-Calling (1Thessalonians 4:7)- Election (1Thessalonians 4:7),

Wherein you are being saved- (Hebrews 10:29)- Justification (Romans 5:16-18)- Sanctification (2Thessalonians 2:13),

Wherewith you shall be saved - (2Timothy 1:9)- Glorification (Romans 8:17)- Consummation (Daniel 9:27).

Gen 49:18 I have waited for Your salvation, O LORD.

Exodus 15:2 The LORD is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation: He is my God, and I will prepare Him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.

2Samuel 22:3  The God of my rock; in Him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my savior; You save me from violence.

2Samuel 22:47 The LORD lives; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.

Psalms 3:8 Salvation belongs unto the LORD: Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah.

Psalms 18:2  The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Act 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

2Corinthians 6:2 "(For he says, I have heard you in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored (helped) you: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Justification-The abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness of God

Romans 5:16 "And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offenses unto justification.

17 For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

(11) Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:

(12) That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."
