4. Baptism
Physical-“An outward
expression of an inward experience”
John 3:23 Now John also was
baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water,
and people were constantly coming to be baptized.
Acts 8:38 And he gave orders
to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into
the water and Philip baptized him.
Spiritual-“An inward
experience expressed outwardly”
Colossians 2:12 having been buried
with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in
the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.
Romans 6:4 We
were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in
order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the
glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Baptism (Greek = baptizo) means DIP, IMMERSE,
or PLUNGE.
Mat 28:19 Therefore go and
make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Romans 6:3 Or don't you know
that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were
baptized into His death?
Galatians 3:27 for all of you
who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with
Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13 The
body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its
parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.
13. For we were all baptized
by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks,
slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
Acts 22:16 And now what are
you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling
on His name.'
1 Pet 3:21 and this water
symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt
from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves
you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ
John 3:5 Jesus answered, "I
tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God
unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
Acts 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent
and be baptized"…
Acts 2:41 Those who accepted
his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to
their number that day.
Acts 8:12 But when they
believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus
Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Acts 18:8 Crispus, the
synagogue ruler, and his entire household believed in the Lord; and
many of the Corinthians who heard him believed and were baptized.
Acts 19:4-5 Paul said, "John's
baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe
in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5. On hearing this,
they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
5. The Lord's
Supper (Table)
1Corinthians
11:20 When
ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's Supper.
21 For in eating every
one takes before other his
own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
COMMUNION (KJV) or
SHARING (NRSV) or PARTICIPATION (NIV)
EUCHARIST from eucharisteo,
translated "thanks" in Matthew 26:27.
Matthew 26:26-30 While they
were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to
His disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body."
27. Then He took the cup, gave
thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you.
28. This is my blood of the
covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
29. I tell you, I will not
drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink
it anew with you in my Father's kingdom."
30. When they had sung a hymn,
they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Acts 2:42 They devoted
themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking
of bread and to prayer.
1 Corinthians 5:7-8 Get rid of
the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast--as you really
are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
8. Therefore let us keep the
Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness,
but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth.
1 Pet 1:18-19 For you know
that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you
were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your
forefathers,
19. but with the precious
blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
1 Corinthians 10:16-17 Is not
the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the
blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in
the body of Christ?
17. Because there is one loaf,
we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.
Exodus 12:43 The LORD said to
Moses and Aaron, "These are the regulations for the Passover: "No
foreigner is to eat of it.
1 Corinthians 11:23-31 For I
received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on
the night He was betrayed, took bread,
24. and when He had given
thanks, He broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do
this in remembrance of me."
25. In the same way, after
supper He took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my
blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me."
26. For whenever you eat this
bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.
27. Therefore, whoever eats
the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be
guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
28. A man ought to examine
himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.
29. For anyone who eats and
drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks
judgment on himself.
30. That is why many among you
are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
31. But if we judged
ourselves, we would not come under judgment.
Luke 22:19, 20 And He took
bread, and gave thanks, and broke it and gave unto them,
saying, "This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance
of me".
20. In the same way, after the
supper He took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant
in my blood, which is poured out for you.".
Matthew 26:28 This is my blood
of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of
sins.
Acts 2:42 They devoted
themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the
breaking of bread and to prayer.
Acts 20:7 On the first day of
the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and,
because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until
midnight.
6. Prayer
Prayer is simply
communing with God. Prayer is a lifestyle of ongoing open communication.
Matthew 6:5 And when you pray
, you shall not be as the hypocrites are:
for they love to pray
standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they
may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6. But
you, when you pray,
enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray
to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret
shall reward you openly.
7. But
when ye pray,
use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do:
for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
9. After
this manner therefore pray
you: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be your name.
Mark 11:24 Therefore
I say unto you, What things so ever you desire, when you pray,
believe that you receive them,
and you shall have them.
Roams 8:26 Likewise the Spirit
also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray
for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with
groanings which cannot be uttered.
1Thessolians
5:17 Pray
without ceasing.
1Ti 2:8 I will therefore that
men pray
every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
James 5:13 Is any among you
afflicted? let him pray.
Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
James 5:14 Is any sick among you?
let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray
over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Jam 5:15 And the prayer
of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up;
and if
he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray
one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer
of a righteous man avails much.
7.
Stewardship
Stewardship
is accountability with the Time, Talent, Tithes and Totality that God
has entrusted you with.
Luke 16:1 And he said also unto
his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and
the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.
Luke 16:2 And he called him, and
said unto him, How is it that I hear this of you? Give an account of
your stewardship; for you may be no longer steward.
Luke 16:3 Then the steward said
within himself, What shall I do? for my lord takes away from me the
stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
Luke 16:4 I am resolved what to
do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me
into their houses.
Luke 16:5 So he called every one
of his lord's debtors unto him,
and said unto the first, How much owes thou unto my lord?
Luke 16:6 And he said, An
hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit
down quickly, and write fifty.
Luke 16:7 Then said he to
another, And how much owes you? And he said, An hundred measures of
wheat. And he said unto him, Take you bill, and write fourscore.
Luke 16:8 And the lord commended
the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of
this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
Luke 16:9 And I say unto you,
Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when
you fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.
Luke 16:10 He that is faithful in
that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in
the least is unjust also in much.
Luke 16:11 If therefore you have
not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your
trust the true riches?
Luke 16:12 And if you have not
been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that
which is your own?
Luke 16:13 No servant can serve
two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or
else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve
God and mammon.
Old
Testament
Lev 27:30 And all the tithe
of the land, whether of the
seed of the land, or of the
fruit of the tree, is the
LORD'S: it is holy unto the
LORD.
Lev 27:32 And concerning the tithe
of the herd, or of the flock, even
of whatsoever passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the
LORD.
Deuteronomy
14:22 You
shall truly tithe
all the increase of your seed, that the field brings forth year by year.
Mal 3:10 Bring
you all the tithes
into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me
now herewith, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the
windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
New
Testament
Mat 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes
and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you pay tithe
of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy,
and faith: these ought you to have done, and not to leave the other
undone.
Hebrews
7:4 Now
consider how great this man was,
unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
5. And
verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the
priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according
to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the
loins of Abraham:
6. But
he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham,
and blessed him that had the promises.
7. And
without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
8. And
here men that die receive tithes; but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed
that he lives.
9. And
as I may so say, Levi also, who receives tithes, paid tithes in
Abraham.
10. For
he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.
8. The Church
NOTE: The English word Church
is translated from the Greek word Ecclesia which means "called
out ones".
Acts 2:41 Those who accepted
his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their
number that day.
1 Corinthians 12:27 Now you
are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
Ephesians 1:22 And God placed
all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything
for the church,
Colossians 1:18 And He is the
head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn
from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy.
1 Corinthians 3:16 Don’t you know that you
yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?
Ephesians 2:21 In him the
whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in
the Lord.
Galatians 3:29 If you belong
to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the
promise.
1 Peter 2:9 But
you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people
belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called
you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
1 Tim 3:15 if
I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in
God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and
foundation of the truth.
Gal 6:10 Therefore,
as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to
those who belong to the family of believers.
Revelation 19:7 Let us rejoice
and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and His bride has made herself ready.
Galatians 3:28 There
is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are
all one in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 4:1-6 As a prisoner
for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you
have received.
2. Be completely humble and
gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
3. Make every effort to keep
the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
4. There is one body and one
Spirit-- just as you were called to one hope when you were called-
5. one Lord, one faith, one
baptism;
6. one God and Father of all,
who is over all and through all and in all.
Galatians 3:26-27 You are all
sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,
27. for all of you who were
baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
Romans 1:7 To all in Rome who are
loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God
our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
